Home Economics and Its Contribution

to the Organization of the Modern Republic

This is Elli's first book, published in 1952.

"Discipline", which constitutes a separate page of this website, was written in 1932 and appears as a preface to this book, and is also included in the book "The Philosophy of Limits".

The whole of the main body of the present book, selections of which are presented here, constitutes the first part of a Trilogy, which is described in the Preface to "The Philosophy of Limits". This first part refers to the Soul.

The other two parts of the Trilogy, which refer to the Spirit and the Body, are contained in the book "The Philosophy of Limits".

The word "Republic", in the English title of the book presented here, has been chosen in order to agree with the title of Plato's work "Politeia" (in Greek), which appears in the English bibliography as "The Republic". In this way we respect the spirit of the original Elli's book, which uses the word "Politeia" with an implied reference to Plato's work. The word "State" could also be used in the title and inside the text, replacing "republic" and also in congruence with the word "statesman", which is a literal translation of the corresponding Greek word "politikos" in both Elli's and Plato's works.
